Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information School Catchments uses in the iOS app and on this website.
School Catchments does not have user accounts and does not run its own app server. The app uses the information you enter or choose so it can show school catchments, nearby schools, saved addresses, and route estimates.
Summary

- School Catchments does not use advertising analytics, advertising SDKs, or cross-app tracking.
- School Catchments does not ask you to create an account.
- Saved addresses, notes, recent searches, app settings, and downloaded data are stored on your device.
- School Catchments does not currently sync saved addresses, notes, or recent searches with iCloud or CloudKit.
- Address search, maps, current location, and route estimates use Apple services such as Location Services and Apple MapKit.
Information the app uses
School Catchments can use:
- the address searches you type and the search result you choose
- the location shown on the map
- your current location when you choose Current Location
- saved addresses and any notes you add to them
- recent searches, limited to the most recent 20
- selected states, app language, onboarding status, and disclaimer acceptance
- downloaded public school catchment and school profile data
- emails you choose to send to us
School Catchments does not ask for your name, phone number, payment details, contacts, photos, calendar, health data, or advertising identifier.
Current location
School Catchments only asks for your location when you choose Current Location. The app asks iOS for your location while you are using the app, then uses that location to show nearby catchment results.
Your current location is not automatically added to recent searches. If you save a location as a saved address, that saved address and any note you add are stored on your device.
You can change location permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Apple MapKit and Location Services
School Catchments uses Apple MapKit for address search, maps, and route estimates. When you search for an address, view maps, use current location, or request a route, Apple handles the information needed for that request under Apple’s own privacy terms.
Apple privacy information is available at apple.com/privacy. Apple also publishes information about Location Services & Privacy and Apple Maps & Privacy.
Information stored on your device
School Catchments stores app data on your device. This includes saved addresses, notes, recent searches, selected states, app settings, disclaimer acceptance, downloaded public data, and processed catchment data.
On iOS, some of this storage uses Apple app features called SwiftData, App Groups, UserDefaults, and Application Support files. In plain terms, these are places where the app keeps its own data so it can work between launches.
School Catchments does not currently sync this app data through CloudKit. Your iPhone or iPad backup settings are controlled by iOS and your Apple account settings.
Public data downloads
School Catchments downloads public school catchment and school profile data from government, education, and ACARA sources listed on the Attribution page.
These files are public datasets. They are not personal information about you. When the app downloads them, the public data provider or its hosting service may receive normal network information such as your IP address and request details.
Website and email
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. School Catchments does not add advertising pixels or analytics cookies to this website.
If you email catchments@chowops.com, we receive your email address and message so we can respond.
How information is used
School Catchments uses information to:
- search for addresses and show the selected location
- show school catchments and nearby schools
- estimate route distance and travel time to schools
- keep saved addresses, notes, and recent searches available on your device
- remember app settings and onboarding status
- download and refresh public school data
- respond to emails you send us
School Catchments does not use this information for advertising, data brokerage, or profiling.
Sharing
School Catchments does not run an app server that receives your saved addresses, notes, recent searches, or current location.
Information can be handled by other services in these cases:
- Apple handles Apple MapKit, map, route, and Location Services requests.
- Public data providers handle requests when the app downloads public school data.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and helps serve and protect it.
- Email providers handle emails you send to catchments@chowops.com.
School Catchments does not sell personal information and does not share personal information with advertisers.
Deletion and retention
You can delete saved addresses and recent searches in the app. You can edit or clear notes on saved addresses. You can clear downloaded data from app settings. Uninstalling School Catchments removes local app data from the device.
Downloaded public data stays on your device until you clear it, uninstall the app, or the app replaces it during a refresh. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to respond and handle follow-up.
Access, correction, and complaints
Most app data is stored on your device, so you can view, change, or delete it in the app.
For privacy questions, access or correction requests, or complaints, email catchments@chowops.com. We will review your request and respond within a reasonable time.
Updates
This policy will be updated when School Catchments changes the information it collects, stores, syncs, uses, or shares. Material updates will be reflected on this page before or alongside the relevant app release.
